Honest To God About God's Guidance

May 16, 2020 | Perry Kallis

Passage: Psalm 23:1-6

It is significant that in both the Old and New Testaments, God’s people are depicted as sheep. It is an illustration largely lost on our modern society where few of us interact with flocks of sheep. Entire books have been written that can explain why sheep are a good example of our connection to God. But simply put, sheep require guidance. Independence seems like the ultimate goal for humans, but spiritually speaking, without God’s guidance, we are vulnerable to certain eternal death. Psalm 23 is not merely a popular passage to be used at weddings and funerals. It is an honest declaration about the life of joy and purpose we can find only when we make dependence on God’s guidance the priority of our life-- a lesson that is especially important in our current age.
