Open Door Discipleship

Passage: Revelation 3:7-13
Doors have a variety of important uses. They can be closed against danger or discomfort or they can be opened for opportunity or to let in family and guests. In the book of Revelation, the sixth church to whom Christ dictates a letter, Philadelphia, is being alerted to an “open door” in front of them. But what message is that open door intending to convey? We will discover that this little church thinks it has very little power or influence. But the encouragement of Jesus to them is that He is giving them all the strength they need in the open door of hope and opportunity. This is a very applicable message for believers living through these specific times.
CBS has had a reality TV show for the past 10 years entitled Undercover Boss. Each episode depicts a boss going undercover into the core of his business life to discover the reality of how his company is really doing. The last book of the Bible, Revelation, begins with a similar scenario about Jesus walking among seven specific churches in Asia Minor. But this is not past history, it is an entertaining show...it is the real reality for each and every church. Jesus IS regularly in the midst of each church and knows us deeply. This series will helps us re-discover the foundational truth of what it means “when Jesus shows up at church...”.
