Passage: Ephesians 2:1-10
Throughout Scripture, there seems to be a balance between remembering and rejoicing. God’s people were encouraged to find joy in God’s mercy, but at the same time, were warned to remember their past pain so they would not return to it. Likewise, in many of Paul’s letters to various churches, he commands them to remember what God has delivered them from, so that they may rejoice in the grace He has given them. This contrast is especially strong in the second chapter of Ephesians, and it serves as a powerful declaration to believers today to remember the sad hopelessness of sin so that we can be glad and live in the renewed hope of salvation.
