Passage: James 2:14-26
We live in a day and age where counterfeits can be quite common. Everything from Rolex watches to Nike shoes is often faked in order to cash in on the good name of the companies that make the real thing. Even so, there are plenty of people out there that know how to spot a fake when they see it and, depending on who’s checking for authenticity, the consequences of trying to pass off a fake could be disastrous. If this is true for our valuables, can it also be true of our faith? James would say yes, and with even greater consequences. This week we’re going to be looking at the biggest “tell” of whether or not one’s faith is the genuine article; the real deal: whether or not someone’s faith is followed by good works. This passage is convicting but altogether necessary if we are truly seeking to love and serve our Lord and Savior with all of who we are.
