Repentance and Mercy

After Jonah’s terrifying but repentance-producing time inside the big fish, he comes out onto dry land after proclaiming the words “Salvation belongs to the Lord.” The reluctant prophet is now ready to obey God’s call on his life. For the second time, Jonah is told to go to Nineveh where he will truly learn what it means for salvation to belong to God. Chapter 3 is a wonderful picture of human repentance, God’s bountiful mercy, and what can happen when we are faithful to what the Lord desires.
