The Case of the Self-Condemning Heart

The Greek language uses the word “cardia” or “heart” to describe the very core of our emotions and mind. We use the English phrase “follow your heart” when encouraging someone to do something they want with passionate commitment. But are our emotions really the best guide for wise living? Both Biblically and practically, we have to admit our emotions can often be unreliable. The Apostle John reminds us that although our hearts can condemn us, through God’s transforming power our hearts can be changed to bond with His truth to accomplish His purposes.
