The Good Old, New Law of Love

As the Apostle John commands believers to love one another, he states that this command is both old and new. How can something be both old and new at the same time? Simply put, something can remain foundational (old), and yet be accomplished in a new way. For example, taking an old song and giving it a new style while keeping the words and melody recognizable is one illustration. John is declaring the importance of applying the God-given, old principle of love in new ways through the power of Christ.
